China wheeled: Geely acquires Volvo
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (“Zhejiang Geely Holding Group”), one of the fastest-growing car manufacturers in China, on March 28, 2010 announced it has signed a definitive stock purchase agreement with Ford Motor Company to acquire 100 per cent of Volvo Car Corporation (“Volvo Cars”) and related assets (primarily intellectual property). MOFCOM’s comments on China’s trade deficit
According to the statistics from the General Administration of Customs, China’s exports were valued at US $112.11 billion in March, up by 24.3 percent year on year, while the imports were up by 66 percent to US $119.35 billion, and the trade deficit were US $ 7.24 billion. This is the first monthly trade deficit for China since May of 2004. Continue reading

Great progress made in the second round ECFA talk
The Association for Relations across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS) and the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) held the second expert-level talks on the cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) in Taoyuan County, Taiwan, on March 31 to April 1. Tang Wei, Councilor of ARATS, headed a delegation to hold talks with SEF Consultant Huang Zhipeng. The two parties deeply exchanged views on the early harvest program, goods trade and services trade in the cross-Straits ECFA, and arrangements for future negotiations. Continue reading

Fernando Chui Sai On was elected the third term Chief Executive-elect of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) on 26 July 2009. He was appointed the third term Chief Executive of the MSAR on 10 August of the same year by the Premier of the State Council, Wen Jia Bao and received the decree issued by the State Council on the following day. He was formally sworn in as Chief Executive of the MSAR of the People Republic of China on 20 December 2009. Continue reading
