HTC strengthens software capabilities with acquisition of Abaxia

HTC Corporation (herein after HTC), a global designer of smartphones, on June 7, 2010, announced it has acquired Paris-based Abaxia, a leader in custom software for mobile operators and handset manufacturers around the world.

“HTC is committed to creating the best possible mobile experience for our customers today, tomorrow and into the future,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation.  “The addition of Abaxia deepens and broadens our software development capabilities so that we can innovate at an even faster pace.”

“HTC and Abaxia have worked closely together in the past and our businesses complement each other well,” said Cedric Mangaud, CEO of Abaxia.  “We’re excited to be joining such a significant and emerging mobile brand.”

About Abaxia

Founded in 2001, Abaxia is a leading France-based international software developer specializing in mobile handset software solutions for network operators and handset manufacturers. Due to the complex and fragmented nature of the mobile device operator ecosystem, the user experience is becoming increasingly critical for accessing and promoting mobile services. Uniquely placed at the forefront of the user interface, the front screen (a.k.a. idle screen) is the most valuable and sought-after real estate for engaging the end user.

Through its market-leading active idle screen product, Abaxia’s technology has a long history in helping service providers increase ARPU by putting services at a zero-click distance to the user and ‘pushing’ services directly to the front screen. Abaxia’s embedded solutions enable service providers to introduce a consistent interface across major handset manufacturers; the company has secured handset OEM deals for large-scale distribution and deals with SIM & memory card manufacturers for just-in-time service delivery at the point of sale.

Abaxia’s 22+ million software deployments, across 36 countries on 60 different handset models with tier-1 network operators, and 10 global technical contracts with major handset manufacturers afford the company an enviable target addressable market for service distribution, discovery and access. Moving forward, Abaxia is optimally positioned to help service providers to drive not only data ARPU, but more importantly recover the failing voice ARPU and secure advertising ARPU.
