Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of People’s Bank of China (PBC). He was born in 1948 and is married to Li Ling who runs the treaty and laws department of China’s Ministry of Commerce. Zhou graduated from Beijing Chemical Engineering Institute in 1975 and received Ph.D in economic systems engineering from Tsinghua University in 1985.
From November 1986 to September 1991, he was a member of the State Economic System Restructuring Committee; from December 1986 to December 1989, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economics Cooperation; from September1991 to September 1995, Vice President, Bank of China; in October 1995, Administrator, State Administration of Foreign Exchange; from October 1996 to February 1998, Deputy Governor of PBC and Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange; in February 1998, President, China Construction Bank; in February 2000, Chairman, China Securities Regulatory Commission. In December 2002, he became the Governor of PBC and in January 2003, the Chairman of Monetary Policy Committee of the People’s Bank of China.
