Taiwan got US Visa Waiver
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on the 2nd of October announced the designation of Taiwan into the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) – streamlining travel for thousands of eligible Taiwan passport holders, while maintaining strong security standards.
“Today’s announcement is a major step forward in our long-standing economic partnership with Taiwan,” said Secretary Napolitano. “Taiwan’s participation in the VWP will not only stimulate tourism in the United States, it will also enable us to work together to maintain the strictest security standards.” Continue reading

Mr. Chen Deming, Chinese Minister of Commerce, surveyed foreign trade in Guangzhou on October 15 and 16, presided over symposiums on foreign trade as well as symposiums on promoting development of exhibition industry, and also visited part of exhibition halls of the 112th Canton Fair. Vice Minister of Commerce Jiang Yaoping and Assistant Minister Qiu Hong took part in this trip. Continue reading

China Biologic certified to start commercial manufacturing human coagulation factor VIII
China Biologic Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBPO, “China Biologic” or the “Company”) on Oct. 24, 2012 announced that its indirectly owned subsidiary, Shandong Taibang Biological Products Co., Ltd. (Taibang) has received good manufacturing practice (GMP) certification from the China State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) for Human Coagulation Factor VIII (FVIII). Taibang earlier received manufacturing approval for FVIII from the SFDA in June 2012. With now both the manufacturing approval and the GMP certificate, Taibang expects start commercial manufacture of FVIII products immediately. Continue reading

Mexico files dispute against China on clothing and textile products
Mexico notified the WTO Secretariat on 15 October 2012 of a request for consultations with China concerning several measures allegedly taken by China to support the production and exports of clothing and textile products. It said it had requested consultations because China appears to maintain a wide variety of measures that support producers and exporters of apparel and textile products, both directly and indirectly. It added that these measures appear to involve both prohibited and actionable subsidies that are inconsistent with China’s obligations under the Subsidies and Countervailing Measures Agreement, GATT 1994, the Agreement on Agriculture, and China’s Accession Protocol. Crystal Cruises’ new spring China voyages
Crystal Cruises is taking guests off the ship and through Beijing’s most historic and cultural sites for three nights next spring, as part of two new 2013 cruises to China. For the first time in four years, the all-inclusive Overland Adventure will be featured as a complimentary pre- and post-cruise package on two different luxury cruises, both sailing aboard Crystal Symphony for 10 days before and after the unique land trip:

Far East’s best business school in 2012
In the morning of October 18th, 2012 (Beijing time), the results of the “2012 Best Business Schools in the World” were announced in Lima, Peru. According to the rankings, Fudan University School of Management stood out to win the honor of No.1 Business School in the Far East. The rankings were decided based on the votes by deans from 1,000 business schools in over 150 countries. Previously in both 2010 and 2011, the School was the only business school in mainland China to rank among Top 3 Business Schools in the Far East. This year, the School advanced to No.1 status, followed by Business School of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Business School of National University of Singapore. With the rise of Chinese economy, Chinese education has also gathered international recognition.
Although ranking is not always a good thing, it still has the inherent value of being a useful benchmarking tool. For most international rankings, universities in Hong Kong are oftentimes ranked in the front among Chinese universities. It appears that universities in Hong Kong have earned more international respect than their Chinese peers mostly because of their English ability and international presence in campus. It is therefore quite impressive that Fudan University School of Management can breakthrough this time in Eduniversal rankings. Continue reading
