China’s top guy in the WTO

Yi Xiaozhun, male, ethnic Han, is a native of Changsha, Hunan province. He was born in December 1951 and is a member of the CPC. He is a university graduate and a Senior Economic Engineer.

From October 1973 to January 1977, he studied in the Department of Economics of PekingUniversity.

From January 1977 to April 1984, he worked in the Beijing Institute of Economic Research.

From April 1984 to November 1987, he worked in the Bureau of International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade.

From November 1987 to August 1992, he served successively as Third Secretary and Second Secretary at the Economic and Commercial Councilor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.

From August 1992 to December 1996, he served successively as Deputy Director and Director of the Division 2 of International Economic and Trade Relations Department under the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade and then the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.

From December 1996 to March 2000, he served as Deputy Director General of the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (From September 1996 to January 1999, he attended the advanced courses of economics given by Nankai University and was awarded a master’s degree.).

From March 2000 to July 2003, he served as Director General of the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and then the Ministry of Commerce.

From July 2003 to October 2005, he served as member of the CPC Leadership Group and Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Commerce (From April 2005, he began to serve as the Deputy Representative for Trade Negotiation).

In October 2005, he was appointed member of the CPC Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce.

In 2011, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the World Trade Organization.
