On January 14, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce conditionally approved the acquisition of Shanghai Lifei Information & Technology Company by Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.
59 relevant products including molecular biology, protein biology and cell culture technology in biotechnology industry were involved. The Ministry of Commerce has carried out, by the use of method for quantitative analysis and market survey, in-depth researches on the influence of M&A on market competition. The result shows that the M&A may exclude or restrict competition in cell culture products, sequence specific primers (SSP) kit, protein standards for SDS-PAGE and small interfering RNA (siRNA) reagent markets.
Therefore, the Ministry of Commerce held several rounds of negotiations with the applicants to solve the above problems and finally approved this acquisition with additional restrictive conditions in line with remedy measures proposed by the applicants.
