Yang Xiong, male, a graduate with a Master’s degree in economics from the postgraduate institute of the Academy of Social sciences of China in July 1985, and a senior economist, was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, in November 1953. Mr. Yang was elected to be the Mayor of Shanghai in 2013. He is now also Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Secretary of the Party Leading Group of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
Yang served successively as vice director of the Economy Research Center of Shanghai Municipality, vice manager of the composite information department of Shanghai Shishi Company, vice director and director of the long range planning section of Shanghai Development Planning Commission, director’s assistant of Shanghai Development Planning Commission and director of the Planning Investment Section, vice director of Shanghai Development Planning Commission, general manager of Shanghai United Investment Co Ltd and president of Shanghai Information Investment Co Ltd. He also served as president of Shanghai Airline Co Ltd, chairman of the supervisor’s board of Shanghai Airline Co Ltd until Feb 2001, when he became vice secretary-general of Shanghai Municipality. Yang was elected vice mayor of Shanghai in Feb 2003. He took office as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Committee and vice mayor of Shanghai in May 2007. He took office as Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Acting Mayor of Shanghai and Secretary of the Party Leading Group of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government in December, 2012.
