As one of the four great inventions of ancient China, it is well-known that printing has had a historical significance. The art of printmaking which can trace its history to over a thousand years ago is therefore of great importance and has become a prevailing artistic medium nowadays. To promote printmaking art, in succession to the first eminent Macao Printmaking Triennial, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao S.A.R. presented its second edition in Autumn 2015. The Triennial seeks to provide an overview of the latest aspects and innovations of contemporary printmaking throughout the world. As a platform for printmaking experts from various countries, it also offers great opportunities to encourage exchange and advancements in the genre of printmaking.
A total of 122 awarded and selected works from multiple countries and regions are exhibited at Macao Museum of Art until the 14th of February, 2016, with a series of thematic exhibitions presented and collaborated on with local art organisations in order to present new features of contemporary printmaking. Excellent works of printmaking from different regions are selected and displayed in several exhibition spaces, including the “Chinese Printmaking New Scene” at the Tap Seac Gallery, the “European and American Poetic Printmaking” at the Rui Cunha Foundation, the “A Look at Asia” at the Art for All Society Macau as well as the “Hong Kong x Macao x Taiwan” at the Macau Design Centre.
