Taiwan legalize five-day work week

On the 6th of December, Taiwanese Legislative Yuan approved amendments to the Labor Standards Act to enforce a five-day work week and reduce working hours, a move that Executive Yuan Spokesperson Hsu Kuo-yung said will protect employees’ rights to adequate rest, prevent them from being overworked, and bring the number of national holidays in line with the Ministry of the Interior’s implementation regulations governing commemorative days and holidays. WTO EGA Negotiation

On December 3-4, the Ministerial Conference of the WTO Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) Negotiation was held in Geneva Switzerland on December 3-4. The Ministers and Ministers’ Representatives from 17 participating countries attended the conference. Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen led the Chinese delegation to attend the conference. In order to implement the consensuses reached by the leaders of all countries at the G20 Summit held in September in Hangzhou China, China conducted close negotiation with all parties, made great efforts, showed due flexibility and expected to reach agreements on the premise that the core concerns of all the participants can be practically solved. Reflection on 2016

It is said that 2016 is full of black swans worldwide. But for the Chinese communities, 2016 is still on soft landing economically without much surprise. The GDP growth rate is around 1.2% in Taiwan and that is 6.7% for China. The growth rate is 0.7 percent for Taiwan and 6.9% for China in 2015. Taiwan has done a little better but still hovered at a very low level. China is holding stable but the downward trend has not stopped. Continue reading
