Taiwan elected its first female president on the 16th of January, 2016. The opposition leader Tsai Ing-wen became the island’s first female president and secured a historic legislative majority for her Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Tsai won 56 percent of the vote. The DPP won 68 seats in the 113-seat legislature, gaining its first ever majority and locking the current ruling party out of power for the first time since since Chiang Kai-shek retreated to Taiwan in 1949.

Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao signed Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement Agreement on Trade in Services
Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen and Director of the Department of Finance of Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government John Tsang Chun-wah signed Mainland China and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement Agreement on Trade in Services (hereinafter referred to as “the agreement”) in Hong Kong on November 27, 2015. The agreement will be officially implemented on June 1, 2016.
