The stage two interviews in the process of selecting 2017 Taipei Universiade’s torch relay torchbearers was held at Taipei Stadium on February 18 with 50 candidates taking part who had made it through the first stage. The second stage comprised of a written test and fitness test, with the character traits, climbing knowledge and reactions the focus of scoring. The fitness test comprised of three minutes of step climbing while carrying a weight, after which heart rate was measured; the Ministry of Education’s Normative Physical Fitness Scores of step climbing cardiovascular endurance were used as reference to obtain an understanding of the individual’s personal fitness. The successful candidates were: Jia-yu Lin (National Taiwan Sport University), Ying-cong Liang (National Taiwan Normal University), Yang-zheng Qiu (Military Academy, ROC,) Guo-xuan Lin (National Tsing Hua University,) Tian-yu Huang (National Taiwan Normal University,) Yu-jia Gu (National Tsing Hua University,) Jia-qi Wang (Cheng Shiu University), with Bo-yu Qiu (National Chengchi University,) Jia-chuan Li (National Cheng Kung University,) and Ting-wei Liu (National Sun Yat-sen University) chosen as reserves. The coastal city of Xiamen provided a scenic and challenging setting for athletes at the first-edition of the Xiamen Bank IRONMAN® 70.3® Xiamen on November 13. In sunny and hot conditions, thousands of spectators helped cheer Josh Amberger (AUS) and Jeanni Seymour (ZAF) onto exciting victories at the inaugural race in the Fujian province. Amberger bested the men’s field with an overall time of 03:56:51, while Seymour took top honors in the women’s race with a time of 4:24:03. Li Pengcheng finished as the top athlete from the host country of China, crossing the line with a time 04:30:53, good for 16th place overall. Continue reading →

Taiwanese government is set to launch its plan to develop 16 Hakka towns along Provincial Highway No. 3 next year, Premier Lin Chuan said today at Taipei’s Hakka Yimin Festival, adding that the development of Hakka culture and communities is very important to President Tsai Ing-wen and the Executive Yuan team.
