Chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission

Mr. Xiao Gang, an ethnic Han from Ji’an, Jiang Xi Province, was born in Changsha, Hunan Province in August 1958. He graduated with a Master’s degree in International Economic Law from Renmin University of China in 1996. He is currently the Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) and Secretary of the CSRC Party Committee.
Mr. Xiao began to work with the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) in 1981. From May 1989 to October 1996, Mr. Xiao held various positions at PBOC, including Deputy Director-General and Director-General of the Policy Research Office, General Manager of the China Foreign Exchange Trading Centre and Director-General of the Fund Planning Department. From October 1996 to March 2003, Mr. Xiao was named as Assistant Governor and Deputy Governor of PBOC, while also serving successively as Director-General of the Fund Planning Department and the Monetary Policy Department of PBOC, head of the Guangdong Branch of PBOC and chief of the Guangdong Branch of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange. From March 2003 to August 2004, He served as Chairman of the Board, President and Secretary of the Party Committee in Bank of China Limited. From August 2004 to March 2013, he served as Chairman of the Board and Secretary of the Party Committee in Bank of China Limited, while also served as the Chairman of the Board in BOC Hong Kong (Holdings) Limited from May 2003 to March 2013. In March 2013, he was appointed as the Chairman and Party Secretary of China Securities Regulatory Commission.
Mr. Xiao is an alternate member of the 17th CPC Central Committee, and a member of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
