Competitiveness rankings: Taiwan jumps to 6th in the world

The Switzerland-based International Institute for Management Development released the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2011 at2 a.m. Taiwan time May 18. Taiwan came in 6th overall in the report, up two notches from the previous year. In the 2010 report, Taiwan ranked 8th—a jump of 15 places from 2009. This latest ranking is Taiwan’s best showing in over a decade. Dr. Stephane Garelli, director of the IMD World Competitiveness Center, said the competitiveness of medium-size and large economies was greatly affected by the 2008 financial crisis, but Taiwan has shown resilience. APEC trade meeting

On May 19 and 20, Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming headed Chinese delegation to attend APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting 2011 in Montana, USA. In the meeting, extensive consultations were made in further supporting multilateral trade system and priorities for APEC in 2011, and discussions focused on pushing forward Doha Development Agenda (DDA) Negotiations, strengthening regional economic integration, promoting green growth, and advancing regulatory convergence and cooperation. Good start for Early Harvest Program under ECFA

Early Harvest Program on goods trade and service trade under ECFA enters into effect as of January 1, 2011. TFDA found food additive tainted with plasticizer

Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) recently found DEHP (Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate) in powdered probiotics produced by Ann Care Bio-tech Center in a joint investigation of counterfeit dugs in the market surveillance of food products. It was then traced back to the cloudy agent supplier from Yu Shen Company which intentionally substituted DEHP for other more expensive ingredients. The company was immediately requested by the authorities to stop manufacturing. Investigation of the downstream has been launched and all confirmed products associated with it are required to be removed from the shelves and sealed. Continue reading

21st is Shanghai in ICCA Rankings in 2010

According to the 2010 annual report recently released by the International Congress and Conference Association (ICCA), Shanghai hosted 81 international association meetings in 2010, 23 more than 2009. Shanghai ranked 21st in ICCA ranking in 2010 (28th in 2009). Continue reading

We live in a world of rankings. No doubt about that. We heard all about rankings in the entertainment business, like Billboard charts. You will be tempted to follow pop music according to their performance on the variety of charts. Rankings give the ordinary people guidance in many aspects other than music.
